We’re changing how we share news from BIHR’s work and elsewhere

At BIHR, we love to share the work we are doing alongside people, communities, systems, and policymakers to enable positive social change through the practical use of our Human Rights Act. We also want to keep you up to date on the latest human rights news in the UK, explaining why our Human Rights Act matters across a wide range of issues.

Starting this week, we will be doing things a bit differently. We will no longer be publishing a weekly news post, but there are lots of other ways you can find out about the latest developments and opportunities from BIHR’s work and elsewhere!

Sign up to a specific mailing list

For information dedicated to the different people BIHR supports, we have some mailing lists you can join:

·        Join our practitioners email group – this is for staff who work in public bodies and service providers.

·        Join our communities email group – this is for community and voluntary groups.

·        Sign up to the Human Rights Action Plan – this is for anyone who wants to take action to champion a human rights culture across the UK! Everyone who signs up to the Human Rights Action Plan is added to our mailing list, which we'll use to send updates, ideas and inspiration. We'd love to hear your stories of putting the Human Rights Action Plan into action and to share these with other signatories.

Browse our website

We are always updating our website with news, blogs, explainers, and updates from our programme and policy work. Here’s where you can find what you’re looking for:

·        News: We will continue to share the big updates from BIHR’s work and news from elsewhere on our main news page.

·        Blog: We share blogs from the BIHR team and guests writers, commenting on a range of topics relating to human rights. Under the news tab you can also find dedicated blog series on SEND advocacy, a range of guest blogs on why our Human Rights Act matters, and our new series about strategic implementation of the Human Rights Act.

·        Get informed: Looking for accessible information about the Human Rights Act, the European Convention on Human Rights, and more? Under the ‘Get Informed’ tab, you can find lots of information about how human rights law works, explainers about all 16 rights in the Human Rights Act, Easy Read and video guides, stories of the Human Rights Act in real life, and resources developed through BIHR’s programmes.

·        Our work: Want to know more about what BIHR is doing to enable positive change and social justice through our Human Rights Act, and the difference this makes? Under the ‘Our Work’ tab, we share updates on our ongoing work to empower community advocacy, build accountability in public services, and positively influence policy, informed by lived experience expertise from our partners.

·        Working with BIHR: We work directly with people and communities to equip them with the knowledge and confidence to hold decision-makers accountable and advocate for systemic change. We also partner with public bodies, providing support to help them know and uphold their legal duties to respect, protect and fulfil people’s human rights. If you would like BIHR to support your organisation, head to the ‘Training & Events’ tab for more information. Sometimes we receive funding to provide free human rights support, and we will share opportunities to work with BIHR through the above channels.

·        Get help: BIHR cannot take cases or give you advice on a personal situation. The organisations listed on our ‘Get Help’ page may be able to help you if you or someone you know is facing a human rights issue.

·        Get in touch: For general enquiries, you can visit the ‘Contact Us’ page or email info@bihr.org.uk. Please note BIHR operates Monday to Thursday, emails and voicemails are not checked on Fridays and will be reviewed the following week.
