Upholding our Human Rights Act 2026
Sign up to this mailing list for updates on any upcoming BIHR Human Rights Act and ECHR legal capacity building work and events.
At BIHR, we believe that we best protect human rights not through slogans or perfected comms lines, but through their use. By understanding them, talking about them, helping people and communities exercise them, and sharing the real and unseen impact they have.
With the UK Government joining conversations to “rebalance” the protections offered by the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), particularly concerning the rights of “irregular migrants”, we once again find ourselves in a position where the power of human rights and their universality are under threat. One of the best ways to tackle this is to equip communities and individuals across the UK with knowledge and understanding of their legal rights under The Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA), to empower people with practical tools, and to emphasise the importance of these rights to every person, every day.
With all of this in mind, in 2026, we want to share an offer with you. We have some funding to develop a sector-wide offer to strengthen knowledge and confidence in using the ECHR and HRA in everyday work across issues and sectors — in campaigns, policy submissions, consultation responses, direct work with people and communities and in what will be crucial conversations with the UK Government. If you’d like to find out more about human rights legal capacity building work, you can add your email to our list here and we’ll be in touch early 2026:
