Senior Human Rights Officer

Charlotte Maguire

Charlotte joined BIHR as a Senior Human Rights Officer in September 2023.

She previously worked as an advocate for survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking within the National Referral Mechanism. This involved informing and empowering survivors of their rights through various UK systems, crisis management and supporting with legislative appeals in relation to accommodation and asylum. 

What Charlotte brings to BIHR

  • Academic and practical knowledge of human rights law at both a national and international level.

  • Extensive experience in coproduction with individuals of a service to develop human rights based approaches through lived experience consultations and survivor-led forums in policy reform.

  • Knowledge of developing training programs and workshops around the practical application of legislation in a human rights context for partner organisations around safeguarding, modern slavery awareness and the like.

  • Holds a BA (Hons) and postgraduate degree in Law from BPP. Her dissertation critically reviewed whether there are sufficient provisions in place for those suffering with mental health conditions in the UK prison system and after care upon release.
