Communities Support Solution

Fair Justice System for Scotland Group

As part of our communities’ co-design programme, we are excited to spotlight one of our six human rights support solutions from 2023. Together with Fair Justice System for Scotland Group (FJSS Group), we co-designed a human rights guide that can be used by people using FJSS Group's services, which largely represents the Black African Community in West Calder, Lothian.

Please use and share this resource with anyone who could benefit from knowing their rights or the rights of people they support.

Collaborating with FJSS Group

This resource was made in collaboration with the staff and members of FJSS Group over the course of six months. It includes real life stories and issues that have been provided by FJSS Group that cover the human rights issues that arise for their members, focusing on the right to respect for private and family life, home and correspondence (Article 8) and the right to be free from discrimination (Article 14).

The Resource

Here is just a small preview of some of the resource pages:

Silence Chihuri, CEO of FJSS Group said:

" FJSS Group would like to express great thanks to British Institute for Human Rights for the collaboration on the Human Rights Resource. Working with BIHR has been such a phenomenal experience that provided our team with great insight into wider work on human rights. "

Working with FJSS Group

"Working on this resource alongside FJSS Group as an advocate to support people accessing the service has been enlightening. Whilst my work largely allows me to inform and amplify the voices of individuals and share knowledge of human rights law, after speaking to Silence and his team, I was inspired to provide creative literature for staff and the community to know and speak about their human rights in everyday practice." - The BIHR Team
