Louise McCormack

Louise joined BIHR in 2022 as Parliamentary and Policy Assistant. Louise has a background in human rights research and policy work, as well as an academic background in human rights and equality law.

What Louise brings to BIHR

  • Detailed knowledge of the European Convention on Human Rights, the Human Rights Act 1998, and the Bill of Rights Bill 2022.

 

  • Experience translating complex legal phraseology into accessible resources and publications.

 

  • An understanding of parliamentary procedure and the way in which bills become law.

 

  • Experience working for civil society organisations and with groups in vulnerable situations.

 

Prior to her time at BIHR, Louise was a Bonavero Institute of Human Rights Fellow at the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law. She worked on legislative and policy developments with the Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre, and on the Bill of Rights Bill.

 

Louise holds a BCL degree from the University of Oxford, where she focused her studies on human rights law, medical law, and equality law. During her time at Oxford, she also served as Research Officer of Oxford Pro Bono Publico, working on projects relating to disability rights and criminal justice. She completed her LLB degree with first class honours at Trinity College Dublin (having spent a year abroad at Sciences Po, Paris).
