Day 6 of our Christmas Appeal is also the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Human rights provide a vital tool for ensuring disabled people receive equal dignity and respect. Much of BIHR's practical work focuses on using human rights to support and empower people living with mental health issues and/or mental capacity issues, such as learning disabilities, dementia, autism, etc.

Last year as part of our March for Human Rights Campaign Liz Sayce, the then Chief Executive of Disability Rights UK spoke up about the importance of human rights:

"The March for Rights campaign celebrates our existing human rights protections in the UK. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities sets down important international standards, and can be used as a framework to influence policy and practice locally and nationally."

BIHR took part in the Christmas Challenge 2017, where our amazing supporters raised a massive £3,271.75 through online donations and matched funds. Although donations are no longer being matched, you can still donate today to support our March for Human Rights campaign.

Your support means BIHR will be able to visit towns and cities across the UK and make sure more people know their rights and how to prevent being treated poorly in health, care, education and in lots of other everyday situations.

Thank you
