BIHR is the leading provider of human rights training to the public sector, with over 10 years experience of working with organisations to make human rights part and parcel of the design and delivery of policy, legislation and public services. Our training courses support participants to:

  • Understand human rights principles, laws and standards and how they are relevant to their organisation
  • Increase their confidence in practically applying human rights in their work
  • Use the human rights framework to support improved decision-making and deliver more effective and better quality public services
  • Be aware of their legal obligations under the Human Rights Act

We work with a wide range of public sector organisations in a variety of areas, including health and social care, education, central and local government and housing. Our training can be designed for staff at all levels, including front-line service providers, policy officers, administrative staff and managers.

Our training explores human rights principles and standards and how they have practical application to the work of public authorities, with a particular focus on the UK Human Rights Act. We present the business case for taking a human rights based approach and demonstrate how it can benefit your organisation. Our approach to training is strongly participative and interactive. Each session is made up of a combination of discussion presentation, group and individual exercises and case studies.

Consultancy
We also work with organisations beyond one-off training sessions, supporting them to embed human rights throughout their work. Previous consultancy work includes: support to develop human rights strategies, action plans and policies; pilot project support; development of tailored information resources and toolkits; development of train the trainer and other tailored training modules; and developing programmes of events.
