BIHR and others call for human rights protection in the Care and Support Bill.
 

The Care and Support Bill is currently going through Parliament. As well as seeking solutions to complex issues around the future provision of care, the Bill also provides a timely opportunity to clarify which bodies have legal obligations to uphold protections under the Human Rights Act. BIHR has joined with several other organisations, to call for an amendment which clarifies this situation.

*NEW* Committee looking at human rights issues in Mental Capacity Act.

A new committee is being established in Parliament to look at whether the Mental Capacity Act complies with the Human Rights Act. BIHR will be working to help people engage with this Committee.

BIHR tells Government why Human Rights in Schools is important

BIHR has responded to the Department for Education consultation on the new secondary school curriculum, raising our concerns about the lack to reference to human rights and why it is important to have human rights education in our schools.

There is much talk, including by the Government, about public misconceptions of human rights and particularly the Human Rights Act. We think one of the best ways to remedy this is to ensure young people have the opportunity to learn about their human rights and those of others around them, and how the Human Rights Act actually works.
