Recognising the obstacles facing emerging women filmmakers, BIHR has partnered with the Documentary Filmmakers Group with funding from the Equality and Human Rights Commission on ISIS: a groundbreaking documentary production and training initiative designed to produce great human rights films and give sixteen talented women directors the skills they need to get ahead in the TV industry.

Camera, sound and directing training were accompanied by human rights and film master classes, including seminars on Human Rights in the UK with Jean Candler, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at BIHR.

Participants pitched their own short documentary ideas on a current human rights issue to a panel which included representatives from BIHR. The three film ideas selected for production tackle the subjects of children's rights and smacking, disabled access to public transport, and children of parents with learning difficulties being taken into care.

The ISIS films were finally launched at the end of May at Amnesty International's Human Rights Action Centre.

Jean Candler said: "this valuable project not only gives women directors a chance to develop their careers in a male-dominated industry, but also highlights particular human rights issues in a poignant and compelling way. BIHR is delighted to have been part of this important project"
