New Joseph Rowntree Foundation Report: Poverty, inequality and human rights: Do human rights make a difference?

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation's (JRW) new report, ‘Poverty, inequality and human rights: Do human rights make a difference?' is being launched on 5 November 2009 in London, and BIHR director Katie Ghose has been asked to participate as a panel member.

The report looks at ways a human rights based approach has been effectively used in other countries, and how the UK may benefit in using similar approaches.

The launch, which is being jointly hosted by JRF and Global Partners and Associates, is designed to be a working session, where participants will discuss the implications of the report's findings, particularly in the context of the recession and its impact. Participants at the event will explore how human rights frameworks can be used to build a coalition for action on UK poverty and look ways in which human rights and anti-poverty actors can work together.

Professor Conor Gearty, London School of Economics, and Kate Green, Child Poverty Action Group, will co-facilitate the day.
