International Human Rights Day 2009 - BIHR launches poverty and human rights project

BIHR is delighted to mark International Human Rights Day 2009 with the launch of our Poverty and Human Rights project. Over 100 people will attend a launch event in London today to celebrate our new initiative to tackle poverty through human rights.

The launch will be attended by participants representing the public and third sectors, media, academia, and community and grassroots organisations.

Drawing from learning in the project so far, the event will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the issues faced by people and communities experiencing poverty in relation to the areas of housing and homelessness, social services and healthcare. Participants will learn about the potential of human rights to provide solutions to these issues - supporting the development of public services and policies where fairness, respect, equality and dignity are at the core.

The Poverty and Human Rights project is funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
