European Human Rights Court Reforms: Brighton Declaration update

The Council of Europe, under the UK’s Chairmanship, adopted the Brighton Declaration - a raft of reforms to the European Court of Human Rights on 20 April. Though, we welcome the clear message for governments to do more to protect human rights within their countries, we are concerned that the reforms may compromise the independence of the European Court of Human Rights and reduce accountability of member states.
