BIHR's Head of Policy and Public Affairs Jean Candler spoke at a fringe event meeting organised by the Liberal Democrat Lawyers Association (LDLA) on 20 September. The meeting was chaired by LDLA's Chairman, Alistair Webster, and entitled ‘Privacy Law: a Rogues' Charter? Is a legal right to privacy desirable or dangerous'.
Using examples from BIHR's publication The Human Rights Act - Changing Lives (2nd ed.), which brings together a collection of case studies that illustrate the value of the Human Rights Act, Jean spoke on the issue of private life in relation to vulnerable people including older people and disabled people.
Also speaking at the event was distinguished libel lawyer Desmond Browne Q.C who examined the development of privacy law in relation to the protection of personal information entering the public domain.
