On 17 November 2010 BIHR launched our 40th Anniversary Appeal at a reception kindly sponsored by Clifford Chance LLP. The occasion celebrated BIHR’s unique role in the human rights community. We welcomed individuals who have played a central part in the history of BIHR as well as new friends from across the human rights field.
It was our great privilege to hear speeches by our President, the Rt Hon Lord Justice Stephen Sedley, our Chair of Trustees, Sir Geoffrey Bindman, William Sieghart, whose father Paul was so instrumental in the early years of BIHR, and Susannah Seyman and Kate Powell from the Down Syndrome Association, an organisation that has benefited from BIHR's human rights training. A delicious cake, iced to congratulate BIHR, was presented to complete the birthday celebrations.
As an independent human rights charity, BIHR relies on the support of people who care about human rights to help cover our core operational costs. Our funded projects, which are making a real impact on people’s lives, rely on our basic, minimal requirements including office space, administration and our ability to ensure our sustainability through fundraising.
With deep cuts to public services there is more need than ever to enable organisations working with and for vulnerable people to respect and defend basic human rights. You can help us to achieve this by setting up a regular monthly gift or by making a donation our £40,000 for our 40th Appeal.
